'Voice of Voiceless'
represents the distant and the unheard
voices of the voiceless people the world
over, the east, the west, the south, and the
north, living under extremely difficult
political, social and economic conditions,
conditions not of their making. They include
the peoples in Africa, Asia, Australasia,
Europe, North America, and South America
whose pathetic conditions need to be exposed
and others made aware.
The vast majority of the indigenous peoples
the world over live below the poverty line
without access to goods and services to
fulfill their very basic needs and the lack
of them generally taken for granted. Hurons,
Mohawks, Apaches, Cherokees, Sioux,
Iroquois,Inuits, Veddhas, Adivasis, Dalits,
Maoris,Korris, Australian Aboriginal people,
Murris, and Noongars are just the names of
some of the oppressed native tribes, rich in
their culture and civilization and more
ancient and a whole host of other oppressed
peoples. Their ways of life and values have
been replaced by powers that claimed to have
done so in the name of civilization. Their
social and economic conditions have
progressively deteriorated due to increasing
impoverishment, exploitation and
marginalization leading to their economic
and social isolation. Devoid of education,
good health and decreasing life expectancy
their children are fast becoming the
underclass of the underprivileged.
There are hardly words in any language be it
"civilized" or "tribal" to describe the
miseries that these peoples have to endure
in their oppression.
Their voices are unheard. The world media
are controlled largely by conglomerates that
control public opinion and influence it. A
medium that is free of control by vested
interests is a rare phenomenon.
It is in this context that some free lance
amateur journalists and professional
academics have banded
together to undertake the ambitious task of
making a dent through the print media by
educating and informing the rest of the
world who have little or no knowledge of the
voiceless other half around the world. The
journal is also intended to provide a forum
for these people to freely express their
views.
Millions of such people living in
metropolitan areas, such as Toronto,
Vancouver, New York, Sydney, and New Delhi
having been disoriented no longer possess
the knowledge of survival skills once
possessed by their ancestors, lack the
skills to gain access to goods and services
in their new urban habitats.
As a result of questions arising as to how
we could be of assistance to these people we
have decided to dedicate our time and
energies to a publication that will focus on
these Aboriginal people and othervoiceless
people around the world. This publication is
not intended to pursue a particular ideology
or to be a critique of governments,
institutions or any group. The Voice of
Voiceless journal has no affiliation to any
group or organization and not motivated by
any political consideration. The prime
objective is to be a catalyst to sensitize
the rest of the world by drawing their
attention to the problems and injustices. In
other words we want to have those distant
and voiceless voices heard.
We invite you to contribute articles and
papers and participate in other possible
ways, even by way of financial support, in
making this journal a success. |
